The national research infrastructure AnaEE France, primarily led by INRAE, CNRS, and the University of Grenoble-Alpes, offers the scientific community comprehensive access to the study of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems through its experimental platforms distributed across the national territory and overseas territories (DOM-TOM). It also provides analysis on its analytical platforms and access to modeling platforms. Additionally, it develops, on a national scale, the information systems necessary for managing and reusing the data produced within the infrastructure.

Created in 2012 with funding from the "Programme Investissements d’Avenir," AnaEE France is the French node of the AnaEE Europe project, which is listed on the ESFRI roadmap and of which it is a founding member and the current project coordinator.

AnaEE France is a distributed infrastructure, structured around four types of platforms that define the services offered:

  • 15 controlled environment experimental platforms, including highly controlled systems like Ecotrons and several semi-controlled systems such as aquatic or terrestrial mesocosms.
  • 21 open-field experimental platforms, including ecosystem plots exposed to differential treatments, particularly over the long term.
  • 8 analytical platforms and mobile laboratories for measuring ecosystem functioning, functional and taxonomic biodiversity, and the biochemistry of environmental matrices: conducting biochemical-genomic analyses, equipment and instrument rental, and data processing and analysis operations.
  • Information systems for these various platforms.

The INRAE component of AnaEE includes the terrestrial systems of AnaEE France:

  • The Genosol and BiochemEnv analytical platforms, which conduct long-term experiments (>20 years) on cultivated lands, grasslands, and forests. The experimental factors primarily involve ecosystem management practices (agricultural techniques, forestry operations) and climatic characteristics. The aim is to understand the impact of these factors on biogeochemical cycles and biodiversity in order to improve the representation of processes at different time scales and to build a body of knowledge that can be used to design solutions to adapt ecosystem management to global changes and the agroecological transition.
  • Mobile platforms (MPOET, PTRMS, Gas Isotope Analyzer) for in situ measurement of carbon, nitrogen isotopes, and VOCs.
  • Open-field experimental sites coordinated across four networks: ACBB, PRO, OLA, and forest sites.
  • Modeling platforms.
