How we are organised

Since 2014, INRAE has been committed to structuring its Research Infrastructures (RI) system.

Published in 2017, the Institute's Infrastructures Roadmap and the INRAE Infrastructures Charter aim to build an internal organization for these collective devices in articulation with the national IR Roadmap as well as the European Roadmap.

An internal labeling process initiated in 2017 resulted in the recognition of 72 Collective Scientific Infrastructures (CSIs): experimental units and facilities, biological resource centers (BRCs), environmental observatories, analytical platforms, technological research platforms and data management and processing entities (e-Infra). Most of them are grouped, by theme, into the 12 INRAE IRs, themselves encompassed in the 17 National IRs involving INRAE.

In its own research fields (Agriculture, Food, Environment), INRAE is a partner and sometimes coordinator of national IRs (17 in total), most of which are multi-institutional.

These RIs are distributed, i.e. made up of entities spread across the country and coordinated at a central level.

  • List of 12 INRAE IRs, INRAE mirrors of National IRs and List of 72 CSIs.

This process of structuring, organization and recognition relies on the expertise of two ad hoc commissions:

- the Cnue, (National Commission for experimental Units), which is responsible for monitoring the organizational policy of INRAE's experimental facilities,

- the Cnoc, (National Commission for Collective Tools), which organize and support the Analytical Platforms so that they meet classic Research Infrastructure criteria,

and on the mission of the Delegate for Collective Scientific Infrastructures (DISC), reporting to the Executive Vice President for Science and Innovation, responsible for coordinating all actions relating to this dynamic, both internally and in relations with INRAE's partners.

The DISC is also in charge of coordinating and steering the Research Infrastructures Board (BIR), which provides strategic direction for this initiative on behalf of the Management Board and INRAE's departments.
