CALIS
Consumer / Food / Health
- Description
- Description
The IR CALIS (Consumer/Food/Health) brings together 14 certified experimental platforms and facilities with recognized expertise in the production, processing, and management of data related to consumer behavior, the construction of food quality, its structural and sensory properties, and, finally, the characterization of its nutritional properties and its impact on human health.
It enables the development of integrated, multi-scale approaches, from food design to the evaluation of its health impacts, including the analysis of the conditions for consumer adoption and the assessment of its environmental impacts.
The objective is to address the challenges of providing healthy, balanced, sustainable food that is a source of pleasure, conveys social and cultural values, and is accessible to all.
CALIS is organized into three key areas:
- The "Food" Division, dedicated to the design and characterization of food. It includes: (i) Technological platforms: the Milk Platform (PFL) of the UMR STLO and the plant transformation platform (PLANET); (ii) Structural characterization platforms grouped within the IR PROBE (certified by INRAE); (iii) In vitro digestion platforms.
- The "Consumer" Division, focused on the study of food choices and consumer behaviors. It mobilizes three types of facilities: (i) The e-platform Odalim, a multi-criteria database on food consumption and products; (ii) An experimental platform dedicated to analyzing consumer trade-offs and the drivers of changes in consumption behaviors (UMR Gael – Grenoble and UMR CSGA – Dijon); (iii) The Nutrinet-Santé consumer panel, which enables the study of food consumption by a very large sample of French consumers.
- The "Health" Division, focused on the effects of food on human physiology and health. The "Health" Division mainly consists of: (i) The national network of the four Human Nutrition Research Centers (CRNH): Auvergne, Ile de France, West, and Rhône-Alpes; (ii) Métagénopolis, a pre-industrial demonstrator specializing in metagenomics for microbiota research.
CALIS also aims to establish a unique presence in Europe through its participation in the European Infrastructure FNHRI, which is currently under development.
CALIS is included in the 2021 national research infrastructure roadmap.
