Emerg'In / Emerg'INRAE
Research infrastructure for the control of animal and zoonotic emerging infectious diseases through in vivo investigation
- Description
- Description
EMERG’INrae is the INRAE component of the National Research Infrastructure EMERG’IN, which aims to combat emerging infectious animal and zoonotic diseases through in vivo investigation and the analysis of derived samples. It consists of a network of three INRAE experimental platforms dedicated to animal experimentation in confined environments: PFIE, IERP, the ANAXEM platform, and an analytical platform dedicated to imaging and veterinary pathology: APEX.
The ambition of EMERG’INrae is to:
- Provide INRAE with a coordination tool open to the scientific community to increase fundamental knowledge and offer diagnostic and control solutions for emerging infectious diseases that can threaten public health or entire livestock sectors;
- Develop and provide original animal models to study host-microbiota interactions;
- Contribute to public expertise in response to requests from authorities thanks to its unique expertise in confined animal experimentation and animal tissue phenotyping;
- Develop public-private partnerships in the fields of animal health/veterinary medicine and nutrition for health, with the support of the Carnot Institute France Futur Elevage and INRAE's DPTI.
EMERG’INrae services are offered to public and private research actors through research services and contracts supported by European research grants H2020 (VetBioNet, Transvac2, Aquaexel3.0) and Horizon Europe ISIDORe.
- EMERG’INrae provides a wide range of animal models essential for understanding the transmission and pathogenesis of infectious organisms and the host's immune response to infection (zebrafish, mice, rats, quails), terrestrial farm animals (ruminants, pigs, chickens, rabbits), and aquatic species (trout). It can also host ponies and wildlife (wild boars, badgers, deer, etc.). The development of new animal models is also part of the offer, including experimentation with animals and vectors such as ticks. The availability of model or farm animals with a defined microbiota or without commensal microbiota is a major asset.
- The platform’s researchers and engineers help design experiments while adhering to the 3Rs rules and incorporating new technologies (imaging, telemetry, etc.) and participate in writing applications for ethics committees (local and national).
- The platforms offer expertise in animal surgery, in vivo imaging (from animal models to large animals), tissue clearing and advanced ex vivo imaging, as well as highly qualified expertise in animal tissue phenotyping (pathology).
- EMERG’INrae participates in the evaluation and co-development of new control methods (vaccines, diagnostic kits, natural or synthetic antimicrobials, etc.).
- EMERG’INrae manages data, ensures long-term data storage, and facilitates data sharing with communities.
