  • Description

The Domaine de la Fage, in the Aveyron region, is an experimental unit which raises 1,000 ewes on 380 hectares at an altitude of 800 metres: 400 Romane meat ewes reared outdoors and 600 Lacaune dairy ewes.

The aim of the estate is to improve livestock breeds and their products (milk and meat) using innovative methods, all part of an agro-ecology approach that is as close to the land as possible.

For the meat flock (350 phenotyped ewes), research focuses on system experimentation, fleece quality, animal sociability, robustness, feed efficiency, vegetation and soil experimentation and biomass monitoring.

For the dairy flock (550 phenotyped ewes): maternal behaviour and health, robustness, monotraite, milk persistency, milk quality, udder health, reproduction, microbiota, adaptation, feed efficiency.
