The UEP is an animal production experimentation site (dairy and suckler cattle) in the heart of the Normandy bocage, in the Orne department. It conducts research projects in two main areas: animal genetics and grassland management: a herd of 500 head, including 250 milking cows on a total of 340 hectares, including 300 hectares of grassland.
Activities and skills :
- Animal genetics: mobilisation of body reserves and milk production, phenotyping of dairy cattle (breed and format), genome studies (genetic anomalies, breed conservation).
- Dairy farming systems: Grazing feeding strategy and improving feed efficiency, Reproduction strategy, Animal welfare and health.
- Milk production: milk components (fat, protein), somatic cells in milk and udder, udder health and metabolism.
