U3E acts as a resource for research into aquatic ecosystems. U3E plays a part in interdisciplinary programmes from population dynamics and ecology to ecotoxicology, aquatic ecosystem quality and aquaculture,
U3E brings together three monitored "workshop" rivers : the Bresle and the Oir in Normandy, the Scorff in southern Brittany and PEARL, the aquatic experimentation facility at Rennes (around thirty ponds, mesocosmes, greenhouses, two halls divided into around fifteen technical rooms or experimental rooms.
The three missions of U3E :
- Collecting data series over several decades, managing and securing the data and making them available to the scientific communities concerned.carrying out the experiments required for ongoing research programmes.
- Collection : collecting, managing and making available samples of fish tissue. Led by the CRB Colisa,
- Developing and using techniques for breeding wild aquatic plants and animals to produce model organisms.
