P3R consists of two flocks, sheep and goats (2,000 ewes and 450 goats) and around 30,000 m2 of farm and breeding buildings.
Research into sheep farming focuses on the genetics of aptitudes for growth, meat quality and feed consumption, as well as the genetics of behaviour and disease resistance.
Research focuses on mastitis resistance, deseasoning aptitude, genetic resistance to scrapie and goat milk quality.
The aims of these studies are to
- increase herd prolificacy ;
- to improve butchery skills, meat quality and cheese yield;
- selecting animals that are fit for reproduction and resistant to infectious and parasitic diseases;
- transferring original phenotypes to breeders.
