The UEFP carries out experimental programmes on forest species and their associated ecosystems. A wide range of species are studied, including maritime pine, black pine, Scots pine, silver fir, oak, poplar, Douglas fir, locust, larch, cherry, chestnut, ash, tulip tree, maple, beech, holly, etc.
The unit has large areas of forest (322 ha in Gironde, 154 in Dordogne), a 4 ha experimental nursery, a biomass hall and a seed and pollen laboratory.
Research programmes focus on adaptation to climate change, mixed forests, wood production and sustainable forest management, with the following areas of activity: experimentation, phenotyping, environmental observation, plant material production, genetic resource conservation, forest estate management, information systems and technological innovation.
